Company History

Steele Foundations, Inc. is a locally owned and operated design and construct foundation contractor specializing in engineered foundation construction.  Founded in 1968 as Steele and Moroney, Inc., the company has successfully completed over 1180 projects, primarily in the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area and as far north as Harrisburg, PA and as far south as Charlotte, NC. In 1993, the firm's name changed to Steele Foundations, Inc.

Ronald W. Steele, president, is a registered professional engineer with over 40 years experience in the design and construction of sheeting, shoring and underpinning systems.

James Andrew Steele, vice president, joined the firm in October 1991. Prior to employment with Steele Foundations, he was employed with James Madison Cutts for four years as a structural engineer. He is also a registered professional engineer.

The firm's clientele include many of the area's major general contractors and owner-developers. Most structural and geotechnical engineering firms are familiar with Steele Foundations’ work.

Among the over 1180 projects the company has completed are many downtown office buildings, government buildings including The White House, National Gallery of Art, U.S. Capitol Building, Reagan National and Dulles Airports, churches, hospitals, embassies, and universities. The company has also performed work for major corporations such as Pepco, Bell Atlantic and Giant Food.

While Steele Foundations’ specialty is excavation sheeting and underpinning, it also designs and constructs shoring systems for facade preservation and structural modifications such as moving or strengthening columns and foundations.

Both officers are active in the daily operation of the company and maintain active membership in industry associations. Steele Foundations’ union work force is composed of many long-time employees.
